On your second point, I agree,

and in this case, the ball beat the runner by a lot. It was not even close. Terrible call. What's next? Calling Lawter for obstruction at home when someone is going from second to third. Obviously, I am exaggerating, but the runner was so far away from home when Lawter caught the ball.
