Don't think we thought he would replicate Wofford at VT...


I think we as a fanbase were all jazzed up on some hot names out there and CMY was not one of those hot names. In addition, he was/is an older guy who had a good by not stellar record of performance at Wofford (i.e., his teams did not go dancing as much as I would have hoped) and we struggled to see how that would translate to sustained success here.

IMO he made some savvy moves that showed his intelligence and predicated his success here:
- He hired good assistants who could recruit, including one who was a defensive specialist
- He retained Bede, who is the unquestioned locker room leader of this team
- He plucked two overlooked gems from Wofford in Cattoor and Aluma
- He initially targeted HS recruits who could skip their senior year (Cone, Ojiako, Alleyne) that were good but couldn't commit to other schools yet
- He endeared himself to the media and fanbase with his folksy, good-natured ways
