You are certainly entitled to ....
believe as you wish and you are not wrong that Frank valued his relationships with assistants and players. However, your assertion that was the primary motivation in his staying is wrong and since you claim to have spent a lot of time with him maybe you can call him up and ask him directly and report back to us. The things surrounding that time have been discussed previously both here and in various hokie circles and while no one disputes Frank's loyalty to his assistants the vast majority believe he was ready and would have gone earlier, a lot like Coach Chuck Hartman, except for wanting to give the university and the program he built the best chance for long term stability. You should probably ask yourself a question and honestly try to answer it. Under your theory, aside from giving his assistants an extended ride and payday how was staying longer going to really solidify relationships with his assistants that had been forged over the last 20, 30 or more years? Finally, I doubt you will find many, if any, high level administrators from around that time, all in a position to know, who would agree with your assertion. In fact many, even Charlie Steger, have indicated succession plans and timelines were in place and ALL got shifted due to the lawsuits and other factors surrounding the shooting. That is a fact that I believe you will find stated both in public print and remarks should you choose to look.
