Late night serious legal question for legal lizards
Found out earlier today that an Uncle of mine had passed away. He had no children but had been very close with his nieces and nephews. My aunt passed away about 15 years ago and since then he became somewhat of a hermit. Rarely came to family events and really didn't allow anyone to visit him. He was hard to contact because he would not answer the phone and at age 87 did not have a cell. A neighbor call my oldest cousin and told her he had passed away. This cousin was supposed to be the executor of his will. Turns out this "good hearted" neighbor in the last 3 months had taken on being his legal guardian and his will was changed leaving everything to her! Not sure how much my Uncle was worth but his home and land 10 acres would at least be $250,000(that's the low end). My cousins and I all feel his estate is probably way more than that. What legally can we do to contest this neighbor who none of us know? My older cousin is going to try and find a lawyer near where my Uncle lived and all of us are upset that we have no control of what is happening, we are not even allowed to plan the funeral. Should also say this neighbor did not even have the decency to call us that he had been hospitalized for a week. She called after he passed. She also told my cousin she had the doors to his house padlocked so no one could enter. [Post edited by vthhhi at 03/29/2021 9:35PM]
