I have it on good authority that Dr. Sand's distaste of football runs deep
when he was in high school, he was cut from his football team as a senior. he swore then and there that he would dedicate his life to destroying the sport. he went to cal-berkley (a noted non-football power), got a PhD and began his career at Purdue (another non-football power). Here, he worked his way up the later to Provost. When the president job became available at Virginia Tech, he saw his opportunity. Here was a school with a proud football tradition. But it also aligned with his engineering background, so it wouldn't raise too many eyebrows if he took the job.
Once hired, he began his life long agenda... dismantle football from the inside out. he began reducing funding to the team and forced the hiring of substandard coaches. he won't stop here, his plan, long term, is to dismantle football at the ncaa level in its entirety. look for him to take a position within the ncaa soon. here, he will begin to divert funds from football to his favorite sport: Rhythmic Gymnastics.
But fear not hokies. Once his plan is in place, and rhythmic gymnastics becomes an NCAA sport, his plan is to have Virginia Tech be the premiere rhythmic gymnastics school in the country.
The future is bright!
