He originally tried to play through the pain, but once it looked like a throw-away year they decided he should have the surgery. That signals to me that it isnt serious enough that he would need to risk future injury by playing.

But all injuries for big men on their joints and feet are concerning...but if there werent risks, he'd also not be in the wheelhouse for VT to be in good position
