If it was slowing down the game, I could understand, but it's not like the team is doing some 30 second choreographed celebration. The sledgehammer takes no longer than any HR celebration without props would take.

It certainly doesn't seem "unsportsmanlike." It's not at all directed at the opponent. It's not vulgar. It's just a very simple celebration. Other than the fact that there's a non-baseball prop involved, it's really not fundamentally different from guys high fiving or bumping helmets.
