PPV model is dying
As Cobb always says "pay attention to what WWE is doing". They did away with traditional PPV's several years ago and went to streaming them on their network. $9.99 a month instead of $50+ per month for a PPV. Then, WWE announced that Comcast had purchased the rights to their PPV's for $200M per year, and now their PPV's will be on Peacock Premium ($4.99 a month) exclusively for the next 5 years.
As the WWE moves to this model, it looks like others like the NFL (Amazon Thursday Nights and the rumored Sunday Ticket to ESPN+, DAZN or Peacock) NHL.TV (ESPN+, Peacock) and MLS.TV (ESPN+) are all moving or have moved to a streaming model because the payouts are much larger than the PPV payouts.
PPVs work for special events like a huge boxing card, but people outside of the states of Alabama, Michigan, and Ohio will probably choose the Notre Dame vs USC or Oklahoma vs Oklahoma St airing on NBC, CBS, ABC or FOX at the same time for free.
