Cody's always had a penchant for making early errors
last year, this led to giving up the early fall. His aggression is exactly how he gasses his opponent and gets the win. But that aggression comes at the cost of many, many mistakes. Plus, if an opponant is a good top rider (see Bullard), he loses control of the pace, which he must have to win, It's always a bit of of gamble, wrestle fast and loose and make some of the mistakes that go along with that and get your opponent to gas, He has to dictate the pace of the match yet not allow his opponent to run up the score.
First and foremost, I'd like to see him get the quick escape from good top riders. If you can ride him, you can control the pace. Also, I'd like to see him clean up the first period more and add some, provided it doesn't slow. He really has made strides here. He's not giving up the fall the way he did last year, but he still often digs himself in a hole early. He's still not good enough to beat solid guys without gassing them first. Over the offseason, he's got to add some defense and tighten his technique, but learning how to escape riders quickly should be his primary goal.
