The problem with.....
letting the air out of the balloon so to speak is that some of that air is needed for ALL the programs. IF the cash cow suddenly develops a leak then it could ultimately effect the ability of other programs to compete. The issue is a complex one. Yes more money probably makes it a little easier to manage but, there are issues around resource allocation and prioritization that have already cropped up and will continue to exist because VT will never have stupid money like the Longhorns or the Aggies or a few others where the answer to covering problems is to spend more money. Seems to me the AD has grabbed the low hanging fruit in terms of additional revenue but, where his real legacy may lie is in fixing the long term structural and culture issues surrounding the fundraising/development operations of the athletic department. Right now that is still a large question mark. Wurthman was a start, IMO, but, the clock is ticking on building more momentum before something changes.
