You nailed it, the VISION of the university is a world class university

The key is many of the alumni, and athletic fans see Virginia tech as a regional small market university, they are not comfortable with the broad diverse community that the university is evolving.

The University's programs research and graduate programs and outreach is transformational. VT is not the narrow programs of agriculture but broad from architecture arts, engineering to science medical/vet schools. Their student base is much more diverse and national/international in scope. The new campus in Arlington and Falls Church are world class. SO our our campus footprint is NOT regional but a major university in top ten metropolitan area of the country and the capital.

my criticism is the athletic department is they are not that aspiration in management, and development. If private donors aren't available how about corporate support (i.e. Amazon branding) and exclusive brand marketing... however I don't know if the staff has the imagination to jump out.

However, VT growth has transformed the New River valley and Roanoke. Without VT investment in the medical school and Hotel Roanoke, the town would have crashed after the N&S departure. With the startups associated with applied research associated with VT, the new river valley is growing and is projected in the five years to even have a greater population than the roanoke valley.

This is all good, and athletics will eventually get there.
