Show me an NCAA Division 1 program anywhere near Blacksburg


The only program in the south is at Alabama-Huntsville, and I have no idea why. You really have to have a population that enjoys the sport and locals that play the sport.

Here in the Pittsburgh area, the Penguins are obviously enormously popular and high school teams play hockey. But the only Division 1 program in the area is Robert Morris. I've been to a few of their games. The rink is nothing special - it's an old facility that serves the community and where the Pens used to practice before they built their fancy practice facility up in Cranberry. But it is perfectly fine for college hockey. They don't draw crowds like the Big Ten schools, but they get hundreds of fans in there on a regular basis with opponents like Canisius and Sacred Heart.
