I've always thought Navy made sense. A game ND normaly plays anyway and

that leaves more out of conference games to maintain a National Schedule. Assuming ACC maintains an 8 game schedule this frees up an opening for 4 out of conference games that does not include Navy. This means ND could play a tough OOC schedule and not jeopardize chances for a conference title.
Personally I enjoyed the season more because ND was part of the conference. Thought having two ACC teams in the final 4 was great.
