College sports has become a profit oriented business whereas NCAA is a non-profit organization chartered for excellence in collegiate sports and academics. (NOT JUST the FOOTBALL BASKETBALL. It represents all colleges from division 3 to division 1. the majority of the NCAA is Division 3 or 2 institutions. Its non-profit and the revenues generated subsidizes the sponsorships of all the championship events at all levels. from Division 3 to division 1. It also funds non-athletic scholarships for graduate programs as well as other programs. This comes from the money they generate from tv and other revenues. Its an association and institutions join by choice and when they sign they sign up to follow the rules the association. IT is not a federal or state legal regulatory association but rather managed by both paid staffers (funded from the NCAA revenues) or volunteers from the institutions.

The power 65 is where the most of the revenues and monetarization occurs. Simply these schools are running semi-professional programs under the auspices of non-profit. They are maximizing more and more opportunities to make more money to get the best staffer or the best facilities for put put for football players or 2.5 million for asst coach. Their lenses see we earn it and we should not be limited. (however, bet the academic side of the institutions would like a much more balanced situation)......

Eventually, I can see the power five schools moving away from the NCAA..(could affect the non-profit nature of the efforts). especially with the paying of players, players benefits free market transfers. etc.
