The Pac 12 is becoming more like the ACC than the Big Ten, which has been its traditional peer. Both conferences have had questionable leadership and direction. Both conferences have subpar television deals. Both conferences struggle for visibility - the ACC because of the SEC's shadow and the Pac 12 because of its time zone. Frankly, both conferences collectively have a small handful of schools they ought to jettison. Both would benefit from getting away from ESPN and linking up with Fox or NBC or CBS.

Ideally, one would take the existing membership, trim the group down to 10 on each coast and set up a schedule where you play all 9 of the fellow members on your side of the country, one home game and one road game against schools from the other side of the country, and one random game (whether it be a FBS patsy, a non-conference rivalry like FSU-Florida or just something for variety) you'd have a much more attractive schedule for fans and television. The ACC would have the noon window, the Pac 12 would have the 4 pm window and the 8 pm window could be split and dedicated to the "game-of-the-weeks." These windows would be far more predictable and convenient for fans and promote attendance. And the programs would benefit from getting away from ESPN talking heads who prattle on about Bama et al., without regard to the game actually being televised. Bowl possibilities could be much more attractive if shared in some fashion. Dissolve the existing ACC and Pac 12 and form a new conference with a new contract. Those left on the outside would probably have to be paid off over time, but it would be worthwhile.
