Know several similar cases

Hearing more and more of people I know or related to have had Severe COVID with no health conditions. The vaccine can't get out soon enough. Just waiting for Group 1 B to kick off so my 87 year old mother can get the her shot. A cousin 60-62 years old with no heath conditions, never smoked or had any lung issues, had to be admitted with COVID Christmas Day and the ER told them Lynchburg had no beds so they transported her to a small hospital in Farmville that day. She was put on oxygen but still declining. 2 days later her dtr recommended transferring to a larger medical center. They found a bed at Duke and she was transported to Duke Medical Center overnight 2 days after Christmas. Was put on 70% oxygen the 1st day there and some additional drugs. Was also put on a clinical trial at Duke for one other drug. She improved enough to go home yesterday, after almost 2 weeks at Duke, and they only told her this week how close they came to putting her on the ventilator that first day she arrived. She still has to have oxygen at home, home healthcare, PT and follow up imaging and pulmonary testing. No way to know yet if she might even have some permanent damage. A perfectly healthy person. Another friend lost a 56 year old former coworker, same situation, healthy person, no underlying conditions, and they don't even know how she got it. She was hospitalized 3 weeks in Fairfax, including 2 weeks in ICU and on ventilator, then later died during transport to another hospital in Fairfax to be put on an ECMO machine.
