Mobile QB

Were rare, and few of the mobility of today's QB. Also, how many offenses were designing around them with QB run often - None. Outside of the Paul Johnson of the world - whom we played yearly and often struggled with.

Its the bear defense - I would have to look around to see if I could find the quote...basically we couldn't recruit the big giant d ends and prototypical sizes for positions in general. So we aimed for speed over power. That worked, until more and more Oline were big stronger and faster. We had a slew of high level guys throughout the years, but on the whole - it was hard to recruit 300+ lbs DT that the blue bloods were going for to come here.

"When recruiting fell off" - when would that have been, under whose watch? I don't think I'm out on a limb in saying Fu had zero input/impact of Foster's defense. Side note: Basham from Wake that people here said, we missed, wasn't it said Bud didn't want to offer him.

I digress, there was regular issues from an athlete and scheme POV. As good as it was, it did have its drawbacks; more and more as the years progressed and designs of offenses changed. The general idea of 2 lockdown corners playing press man and 4 lineman pinning their ears back EVERY play wasn't unique to Bud - there are functional elements. It was when containment was necessary, that scheme isn't designed for it.
