But your conclusions about heat being justified

for the OC demonstrates a rush to a conclusion.

What if virtually no teams win when their D or STs don’t provide a short field? If that is the case, then winning without advantageous field position is the norm, not the exception. If that’s true, then why would we put the heat on the OC for performing exactly how most other teams perform offensively?

Why isn’t your conclusion to put heat on the DC and STs for not consistently creating field position?

Again, if the inability to create positive field position is also associated with the defense giving up more points, maybe it’s THE POINTS GIVEN UP that are the problem, not the O’s failure to drive 80 yards over and over again.

Without the ability to determine how well or poorly the O and D are doing compared to other teams, you’re trying to interpret the results without a frame of reference.

Again, it’s an interesting analysis but a very incomplete one and one that leaves the door open for plenty of alternative explanations for the results.

As soon as you jumped to “heat on the OC is justified,” you moved well beyond what your results support.

I’m not saying you’re wrong in your conclusion. You may be right. But the conclusion doesn’t necessarily follow from the results of your analysis.
