Isn't the NCAA in the process of allowing athletes to make money from it?
I assume that's what the meeting was about.
IIRC, California passed a law forbidding its institutions from punishing athletes who profit off of their likeness.
One possible answer from the NCAA would have been, "fine, every one of your institutions will be on probation very very quickly". But the route they chose was to allow California to dictate policy for college athletics nationwide and starting in the 2021-22 sports year, student athletes will be able to profit from their likeness.
And this will absolutely never be abused by SEC schools, all of whom, shockingly, will have third-string punters receiving six-figure contracts for use of their "likeness".
