He would not have lasted as long as he has with no Bud winning games in

2016 and 2017. He might have turned the corner by 2018 when the defense was awful and he was able to get a couple of good years recruiting under his belt or he might have recruited low ranked defensive athletes and still been just as terrible. I think would he would have been worse and possibly dismissed. Galen Scott didn't set the world on fire at Memphis and probably would not have known how to deploy the athletes Bud had on the team in 2016 2017 in a different scheme. The staff he has now minus Galen Scott is actually very competent and I predict the defense to get better in the coming seasons. Maybe not at the heyday of 2007 and 2008 but good enough to allow Tech to get to 10 win seasons again. Only question is will the recruiting start to pick back up. The Wake Forest loss was disappointing but it was different than many of Fuente's other embarrassing losses in that I clearly felt Tech had the better team and just didn't come to play and made to many stupid mistakes. In the bad losses in past seasons, it looked like Tech was not the better team and got crushed even though they were favored to win.
