This staff (in all its recent versions) definitely does not crush
it on the recruiting trail. I'm a little more bullish on their ability to develop players. I mean, our OL looks amazing and it is not a lot of highly touted prospects. I'd say most QBs Fuente and Cornelson have had at VT have looked pretty good (given their talent level). I'd say they got the most out of Jerod Evans and maximized the very limited abilities of Josh Jackson. Hendon Hooker (last week notwithstanding) has developed well. Ryan Willis is the obvious exception.
Similarly, Caleb Farley was an offensive player in HS and has become an excellent cover corner, as has Jermaine Waller. Is that the current staff or a previous coach?
But none of that really matters all that much. Bottom line is we need better overall talent.
Some of that is a coaching staff that can recruit. But some of it is facility upgrades and a much bigger recruiting staff. Clemson has dozens and we now have five. I don't care how charismatic the head coach is -- that's an unwinnable fight. It just is.
