Anyone following my posts the last 20 yrs, knows I've always supported...

...the incumbent coach. I always supported Beamer, even when others were calling for his head. And I've been a staunch believer that we should support Fuente's efforts to build a winning team. Until now. After 20 plus years of posting, I am finally of the opinion that we need a coaching change. Soon.

Fuente may be a competent coach, but he does not inspire. He doesn't inspire players. He doesn't inspire recruits. He doesn't inspire the student body. He doesn't inspire alumni. He doesn't inspire non-alumni fans. He doesn't inspire donors. He has the personality and sideline presence of a sack of corn meal.

No, I don't have an alternative to suggest. Yes, I know we are encumbered by an onerous buy-out package. We are stuck, here, between a rock and a hard place. Our only real options at the moment are to ride out the contract until the buydown has reached a more acceptable level, or hope that Fuente sees the handwriting on the wall and looks elsewhere, or is approached by another school.

After that, where do we go? The administration and the donors are going to have to make a big decision: Are we going to try to continue the arms race with the Clemsons of the college football world, or will we be content existing as a mid-major program? At this point in time, it seems like the administration is open to upping our game, but are constrained by the reluctance of our donor base to support the program at that level. I don't have any answers, but I do know it sucks to be us at the moment. So, for now, I'll throw my hat into the "Fuente needs to go" ring.
