I guess. What is the appeal of Clemson, State College, Auburn, or Norman?
Not exactly apples to apples --- Auburn has the SEC money/support, Oklahoma has the tradition, etc.
But most big-time programs are in relatively small towns. They've been able to build & recruit around that stigma.
Is it even a stigma? I think some kids want the city experience (Miami, Los Angeles), and some kids prefer the small-town experience, where football is the focus.
