That is a very interesting topic and I can see multiple valid arguements
Kids should show initiative and be active in their recruitment because it is their life and it shows dedication and determination.
But they are also just kids and don't have the life experience of adults. So there is a limit to what should be expected of them.
Parents should give their kids room to manage their future. But parents should also help their kids to avoid danger or trouble because we always want to look out for our kids.
Ultimately this is a big life decision for the kids (what school, what coaches, what system of play, what teammates, what academic major, location, etc.). Like all big life decisions, it is normal and wise to ask for advice and help. Whether it is talking to current players, former players, parents, friends, or even just reaching out informally to a college coach to see if they might share some wisdom, it is all valuable in helping to inform a person as they make the decision.
