[Women's Tennis] I'm impressed with Hoo alum Daniele Collins
She's in the quarterfinals of the French Open.
I have to admit that I had never heard of her until I saw some of her match on Saturday. Yes, she made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2019, but that tournament doesn't catch my attention because of the time difference.
One thing about her resumé that caught my attention was that she won the NCAA singles championship twice. There haven't been that many former women NCAA players who have made it big as pros, owing partially to the fact that so many women turn pro when they are teenagers.
Laura Granville, who had a great career at Stanford, was ranked as high as #28. Collins has been ranked as high as #23. She's currently #57, and that will go up next week.
