First thing worth knowing is if he formed an LLC. Reading between the lines I think not.

What is the cost of revving all this up in court vs appearing on his own and letting the case stand on its merits as you described? It's going to be $600 just to get a lawyer to show up.

I would avoid the vindictive parts of your original post and let him know he needs to speak to a counselor. Is he still under your health insurance? Does your plan offer access to legal counsel?
