It was just 3 schools that voted to play (Nebraska, Ohio State, and Iowa). He could have told them that he would assist their continuing those 2 games each with Big Ten Officiating, but they would not be conference games. Then he could have told all three they are on their own to find 8 other games. At the time people were looking for games all over the country.

Then he could be working on the Spring Season now. Everyone would be content. But he chose to be Ebenezer Scrooge instead and to hide from scrutiny.
