Our pool is limited to 39 people at a time (for reasons I can't explain - should be 50% of capacity which is much higher, but I digress). You have to use an online system to reserve slots in one hour increments but it is perfectly ok to book back-to-back. Pretty much the same group of people show up every day - the kids all go play and the adults sit in the shallow end (with reasonable distancing) with coolers and speakers and have a good time. Yesterday one of the guys brought a 42" tv that he put about 10 feet outside the pool and was able to stream the Caps game and the PGA tournament. A good time was had by all ... or so we thought.

Someone (let's call her Karen) complained on the neighborhood web site that bringing the TV was inappropriate and 'not safe during the quarantine'. I wasn't aware that you could catch COVID from watching TV outside but apparently it was worrisome to her. One other lady (lets call her Cynthia) supported Karen and said that if she had been there with her grandkids she would have left. And then about 25 people called them out for being uptight and things got pretty nasty. Unfortunately the head lifeguard also lives in the neighborhood and kind of got caught in the middle of it all but she handled it very well.

My position was basically - if you don't like the TV, set your stuff up on the other side of the pool. Why should that bother you? Also, 2020 has been the year of the suck ... if people can enjoy a Caps win and a great golf tournament safely in a pool on a beautiful day, why suck the fun out of something like that?

This is NOT a backstory but I suspect one will emerge at some point and I look forward to it.
