I couldn't get up. Middle daughter got up and went into the kitchen and lit a candle!!!
Luckily there was no gas leak or I wouldn't be here. Somehow she even avoided cutting her feet on all the broken glass on the floor in the kitchen. Cabinets emptied. Went down the hall to see the youngest daughter but an ironing board has fallen out of the linen closet and blocked entry to her bedroom. Finally figured it out and went in. She normally sleeps on the right side of the bed but luckily was on the left as the bookcase on her desk had fallen on the right. We found a flashlight and started checking out the rest of the house. Wife was in Tucson at the time on business and when we looked in the office, oldest daughter commented, "mom said this place better not be a mess when I get back". Needless to say, we got a big laugh out of that. Most all of the neighbors lost their chimneys and block walls. When the wife returned, we were having breakfast a few days later when you could hear a roar approaching. It was a sizable aftershock. So at least she go to experience that:) Quite a lot of destruction in
the area. We were fortunate. It was a couple of months later when we sold the house and moved to Tucson. Quake didn't move us, the company (HAC) did.
