NY did not "get a handle on it". As someone else mentioned, they have over
32k deaths, which is way more than any other state. NY and its governor simply did what China did, which was export all their covid cases to the rest of the country/world. You could literally watch a daily map of covid and see it creeping down from the I-95 corridor to the eastern seaboard to VA, and eventually to Florida. Many of their sick patients simply fled the state down south and to FLA in particular, a popular summertime vacatiion spot for New Yorkers. Thats why FLA is the disaster it is now.
The governor Cuomo was asked to quarantine their state and he refused. He is also responsible for 6k nursing home deaths. He signed an order sending recovering nursing home patients back prematurely to their nursing homes where they infected 10's of thousands and 6k died. That doesn't sound like "getting a handle on it".
