Depends on the state


Different states have different rules about liability when a tree falls. Most midwest states it is where it lands is responsible unless the tree was identified as a risk to the landowner it was growing on before it fell and they did nothing about it.

I would understand that before doing anything, then adapt your plans accordingly.
