Education and sports. Two different animals. But a free market solution

Football: The more I think about college football and professional sports at large, I think a (quasi) professional soccer model would be awesome for the NCAA. Make the only requirement for being on the roster that the student-athlete is pursuing a degree. And the school/program can pay them whatever they want. Have about 20 teams per division (although that number can be more or less). Have promotion and relegation. Games would be FAR more interesting. So instead of a meaningless third rate bowl game of 6-6 teams, you would have a relegation battle where the loser is booted from the division. Instead of four divisions as it is now, there would be many more.

School: from K though 12 though higher ed, the whole system could use a heavy dose of free markets. So I'm against making it free if that's what you mean by "available to all." I'm all for institutions raising money and having a bonafide merit system though. But in general, students need to have some skin in the game, and the education has to be accountable to market, more so than government.
