Football is a lot less important to my life than it is to theirs...

If I feel like I'm being squeezed (and yeah, HC + tickets is not cheap), then I can find something else to do with my money and time.

Goodwill has its limits. The biggest worry for football players and coaches - pro and collegiate - is that the US survives a Fall without football and realizes that you can fill those Saturdays with other stuff.

100 years ago, boxing and horse racing were king. Track even had a moment. Baseball had a nice long reign, and only recently in historical perspective, football took over. Owners and players need to realize that it would be unusual for football NOT to fade in popularity and to be replaced, and should act accordingly.

And by 'act accordingly', I mean that as a high schooler, maybe hitting the books and focusing on a business, engineering, etc. career is better than football, if football is such a hardship. Considering the injury concerns alone, you have to wonder about the risk.
