The "source" for sonos is your phone. Unless you get their


amp, in which case you can connect a peripheral to it - like a turn table, or something along those lines. It has RCA in. The biggest advantage to the amp is turning traditional speakers into "smart" speakers. For example, if I moved into a house that was pre-wired for audio (ceiling speakers, etc) I would power those speakers with a Sonos amp vs a traditional amp.

I think you can also link a media server to the Sonos app - like is your running a NAS or something like that - but I'm not that advanced so I'm not sure about all that.
