BUT also difficult to do

You have to graduate in the top 10% of your class, have a 3.5 GPA (on the 4.0 scale, so extra weighted courses dont count as much), and get a 1200+ on the SAT.

As you can imagine, while fairly common among the general student body, it isnt super common among Division 1 basketball players.

Those people would typically be in line for academic-only money. As difficult as it is to find someone who has those credentials plus is a scholarship-worthy athlete, it is exponentially more difficult to find more than 1.

Keep in mind that youre also competing with Ivy League and Patriot League schools for those kids as well. And likely academics are a big factor in their decision making.

What really happens is a kid who has the academic credentials but is a so-so athlete gets put on academic scholarship and is used as a practice dummy and to boost the team GPA. That happens a lot, at almost every school.
