He doesn't view college football as a series of short-term transactions and temporary relationships. It seems like that has been a missing piece at VT over the years. Former players didn't stay actively tied to the program the way they seem to with Swinney. It seems like the situation at VT has gotten better in recent years, but there is still catching up to do. Relationships add value (advice, connections, donations), and VT still needs to get better at building and maintaining them.
