Which is why the CDC's assertion that masks are ineffective...


...is so confounding. I always assumed masks were at least somewhat effective, because while the CDC was telling the general population that there was no reason to wear them, they were sounding the alarm that front line workers didn't have enough PPE. I figured it was simply a "diversion" to prevent a run on N95 masks, and in hindsight, we all realize that's what was going on. The problem is that the change in guidance caused a LOT of people to distrust what they were being told, and now you have a bunch of people who don't think masks are necessary because that's what they originally heard from official sources.

As far as I'm concerned, that was a really, really stupid way to handle this.
