I am familiar with the "no loan" policyaybe there is a work around, but...


I do know that Ivies do not give athletic or merit schollies. My kid got into Cornell and was a recruited athlete. We made too much money to qualify for any financial aid. Maybe the Ivies with their large endownments can lower the threshold and increase aid whereas other flagship schools can't keep up. Maybe there are other grants for special circumstances.

The Ivies have long said that someone would not be denied due to lack of ability to afford the school (i.e., that qualifies for aid based on income). But I don't think they have buckets of money that they use solely to recruit athletes and they don't give money to students just because they say they need it (I can assure you that many students that attend Ivies graduate with loans). Ivies do not need to recruit smart kids or athletes - they turn away 1600 SAT and 4+ GPAs with worldly experience all the time.
