Harrisonburg was named for Thomas Harrison (1704-1785).


He migrated to Virginia from New York State. He got the town started with gifts of land. Being from NY it is likely he did not own slaves, but you never know. He definitely did not fight in the Civil War, so he has that going for him. He may have picked his nose, so that might be held against him.
