once Lincoln Riley left things on the field went south and the academic side was becoming an absolute quagmire. The vast majority of his last two recruiting classes had no chance of retaining eligibility past two years much less actually graduating. This situation left the AD little choice. The mistake wasn't firing McNeil it was hiring Montgomery.
