Basketball assistants arent structured like football

Basketball staffs go like this:

Head Coach (Mike Young)
Assistant #1 (Frazier)
Assistant #2 (Jackson)
Assistant #3 (Webster)

Beyond that, it is really up to each staff to structure who they want to follow after 3rd asst. Sometimes it is Director of Player Personnel, sometimes it is a Special Asst to the Head Coach, most of the time it is the Director of Basketball Ops...regardless, the top 4 people are almost always structured this way

If you want to be a head coach, youll likely need to be the top assistant first (though some certainly skip that step)...Jackson was the 3rd asst at Cincy. He was the 2nd Asst here...Id imagine he will be the 1st Asst at ECU, and might even be a pay increase depending on how the VT and ECU staffs are structured. The top asst also has more say in how things are run, who is recruited and such. It is a big step up in responsibility.

So it isnt the same as say if LB Coach Claeys were to leave for the same position at ECU. That is a step down in playing level and pay while keeping the same responsibilities.

As far as who replaces Jackson, I have no info there, but I would bet they have known this would happen for quite some time (asst coaching contracts end in June/July each year) so they already have a short list, if not someone already recruiting in the position.

If it is an inside hire (i.e. moving the Director of Basketball Ops up) then I would expect Webster to be bumped up to #2. If it is an outside hire, I would expect that person to be the #2.
