We have more of a chance at a national championship than......
......having Lane like that again. It's a different time. From 1999 on, students would graduate and figure out how to keep coming back to games every year. They would pair up with friends to rent/buy places in Blacksburg just to have a place to stay six times a year. Virginia Tech football was nationally recognized, exciting, and people loved everything it stood for (e.g. blue collar, hard work, Beamer, etc.). It's just not like that anymore. I don't think students are planning the next decade of their lives around Hokie football anymore. And they aren't just going to "hop on the wagon" when they are early 30's with kids and a job. Attention span, technology, loss of identify, etc........it's just a different time. With that said, maybe we get back in the title hunt one day. You know, when we land the next Beamer :-)
