Not at all... but I'm not about to call our HoF coach inept
I'm not about to call a guy who gave 29 years of his life devoting blood sweat and tears taking the program to heights far beyond what it had ever seen "inept" because he failed to take action one time (and sure there are numerous other instances.... literally every other coach has these instances too... every damn one of them).
Coale had the option all game (in fact, I think I recall hearing he had the option in the ACCCG too). He finally took it at the worst possible time. Yes, Beamer should have redlighted the option and told him to just kick the ball. I also doubt you've ever been on a college football sideline. There are literally a thousand different things going on at any given time. The TO was likely to straighten out some other mess and perhaps Beamer didn't get around to telling Coale not to run with it. Perhaps he trusted Coale not to run with it. Perhaps it just slipped his mind (very easily could happen). Heck, perhaps the conversation even did happen and Coale just misheard the coach in all the hullabaloo. Until you've been on the sidelines, you can't really appreciate just how much really goes on down there. Like I said... it's not a video game where you can make decisions one by one. Heck, it's not even like you can literally talk to whoever you want at whatever time you want.
