I have had many times where my teenager is used waiting for a response to a text and my wife and I tell her to "just call him/her". She prefers texting because it gives her more time to think about a response, whereas live voice calls require quicker reaction time. I've had similar experiences with college age kids I've given job leads to. They all want to do everything by email instead of picking up the phone and calling the person. I wonder if it is because we scared them too much as kids with all of the "stranger danger" warnings.
