Thoughts on Trey Kibe commitment
▪ Flo has Trey ranked #24 on their Big Board but Willie Saylor has him slotted at #11 FWIW.
▪ As @Palmetto Hokie noted, this keeps Ulrey in the 57/65 range, which is about where he should be.
▪ I don't see 2021 being a large class so getting this caliber of a wrestler to commit in what could be a small group is huge.
▪ From what I've read, it seemed like he rushed to commit to Penn State and he didn't want to deal with a drawn out recruiting process. A quote from him to PennLive.com after his commitment to Penn State: “It’s a good relief,” Kibe said. “I just figured if I knew where I wanted to go, there was no point in waiting. Sometimes, with school and wrestling and coaches constantly texting you, it can be a little stressful. It’s nice feeling going into the postseason just letting loose.” Seems like he took a step back, looked at a stacked room from 174-97 at PSU (Starocci, Brooks, Facundo, etc) and made an educated decision about his future. Good for him. Also, I'm glad he got his official visit in before Covid! (See below).
▪ Always feels great to get a recruiting win over the Wolfpack. As many of you have noted, it felt like the chips were stacked against us once Trey decommited from Penn State considering his connections with the Hidlay brothers. That's still a weight of need for them. Then again, they could shut me up and get a blue chipper tomorrow because that's just how they roll. Great for the ACC.
▪ You can never underestimate the power of an RTC in recruiting. The addition of James Green a couple of weeks ago will pay massive dividends in the future. (Thank you SERTC donors!)
▪ Pretty good day to get a commitment from a top 20/15 senior on the first day that coaches are allowed to contact recruits from the 2022 class! (We're looking at you, Nick Fledman).
▪ Our patience now will be rewarded later. Can't wait to watch a dual with Latona, Hillegas, Andonian, Brady, Ulrey, Lewis, Kibe and Catka in the lineup together. Mekhi's junior and senior seasons will be a lot of fun to watch.
▪ Speaking of Mekhi, sounds like he's excited about Kibe coming on board! (See below.)
