Upcoming Season
1 - Per John Smith at the NWCA, they are trying to fit the wrestling season into a single semester with start date after the new year. Coach Robie is 100% behind it and has believed the season should be shortened for awhile. He doesn't believe the five month season is fair on the athletes.

He would also like to get the NCAA Wrestling Tournament away from competing with the NCAA Basketball tournament weekends, too.

Incoming Recruits
2 - On Brandon Green: "I'm not sure if he's going to able to wrestle or not". He didn't say anything about the probability of Brandon wrestling, but the door has not been completely closed.

3 - On Hunter Catka: "is gonna be as ready as anybody probably that we've ever had coming in as a freshman".

Returning Guys
4 - On Mekhi Lewis, "The plan is for Mekhi to come back at 165". Thinks Mekhi will be at 165 for at least one more year.

5 - Praised youngsters and specifically mentioned Andonian, Latona, and Brady.

Other Thoughts
6 - Qualifying system changes have significantly helped the ACC programs improve. I believe he mentioned the ACC only had 14 NCAA tournament bids under the old system. It's allowed VT to send wrestlers to the NCAAs multiple times. The Universities in the ACC have made increased commitment to wrestling. Believes ACC is as good as it's ever been and thinks it will be better in 2-3 years.

7 - Coach still does a lot of the recruiting. He believes it's important in order to put kids in a place to succeed. To paraphrase Coach words: Coach Frayer and I do a bulk of the recruiting.

8 - On Devin Carter, special kid who took the program to another level. Had national title talent but ran into Logan Steiber and Jordan Oliver.

Devin returning from his injury "came from his mind". The day after surgery, he came to the wrestling room in a wheelchair and said he was wrestling at the NCAAs. Everyone but Devin thought he was crazy. He wasn't supposed to do anything for 6 months but returned in 6-7 weeks.
