I was tested yesterday for antibodies
Able to do it through nurse practitioner at work but at my cost. Since that was only $50 I decided to do it on my own.
My wife had an unusual viral infection back around January that our physician couldn't really diagnose. Her symptoms were very similar to what we've heard reported in conjunction with Covid-19 and ultimately a round of steroids was the effective treatment. I had a brief experience about a month after my wife's illness where I felt generally run down and experienced chills for a couple of days. Although we have discussed the "what if" possibilities around that, I believe that the very notion that we had the virus is heavily influenced by confirmation bias on our part.
All of that is to say that I fully expect my results to be negative. My motivation for taking it voluntarily was to contribute to the database of knowledge related to this disease. And on the off chance that I do receive a positive result, I will donate blood and/or plasma for use in further research and development.
My wife and I are of the opinion that herd immunity is the most statistically likely path forward through this situation. I don't think we're 100% thrilled by that notion, but we also acknowledge several trade-offs in our daily lives based on the likelihood of bad things that could happen and our personal view of mortality in general. We also acknowledge that reasonable minds will come to vastly different conclusions than our own.
My intent was to answer Coach McGuirk's question. Not sure if I accomplished that objective at all. [Post edited by Hokie Fiji at 05/19/2020 12:10PM]
