First, Beamer entering the 1993 season had a 24-40-2 record at Tech

In four seasons at Tech, Fuente is 33-20. The coordinators for the 1993 team were Ricky Bustle and Phil Elmassian. Bustle at that point was in his first season as the offensive coordinator and 14th year as a coach. Brad Cornelsen, the current OC is in his fourth season as Tech's OC and 21st as a coach. Bustle of course would Tech's OC for eight more seasons and enjoy the '99 run. But right now, Cornelsen is a better coach than Bustle was in '93.

For the '93 season, getting Elmassian was a big hire for Beamer. Defense had been atrocious in '92. Elmassian had 19 years experience, with former stints in Blacksburg, Syracuse, UVa, Minnesota, William & Mary. Elamssian from what I remember pissed off everyone around him, from Frank Beamer to the second string water boys. When Elmassian left, that was a good thing for Tech. In his 40 year career, he would have 22 different jobs.

Elmassian clearly had more credibility than Justin Hamilton does now. Hamilton though is being groomed to be the next Bud Foster. With Daryl Tapp, Tracy Claeys, and Bill Teerlinck on the defensive staff, That is a solid group of coaches. Yes, Beamer had an unknown LB coach named Bud Foster in '93 under his wing, Steve Marshall as the DL coach, but I still maintain that the current staff can take the Hokies further.
