I’ve not heard anyone argue that

opening up the states will make the numbers go down or stay steady. What it will do is put food in peoples’ mouths, put people back to work and give them income, and improve the mental health overall for the people in those states that open back up. This should be a benefit/cost analysis, and in my opinion the benefits to open up in a responsible way outway the costs, even if that means more deaths. Not many hardliners that want a total or very tight shutdown are willing to talk about or consider the additional suicides and physical and/or emotional abuse that is going on right now due to the shutdown. And the goalpost keeps moving. It started out that the goal was “flatten the curve” so as not to overburden the healthcare system. I do not know the future, but up to now the healthcare system in most areas has not overburdened. Now, the goal of some is to “stay shut down or stay inside until a cure or vaccine is found.” I have a sibling who lives nearby who is scared to death of getting the coronavirus. He will not visit our elderly parents (which breaks their hearts), he will not help me in getting their groceries, meals, etc. on a near daily basis. His argument is that he doesn’t want to get them sick. But it’s no different than when I see them and are in contact with them when doing their errands and helping out. We have to move on in a responsible way. Movie theaters and concerts? Nah, I’ll pass. Going outside at will and doing my regular routine, with no fear of reprisal? Yes please. Working at work instead of home? YES, PLEASE YES.

As always, JMHO.
