'58 - "63


I was there from '58 to '63, when we were in the Southern Conference.

Frank Teske was the coach, a really nice man, but more of a manger than a coach. He would organize the practices but would rely on the experienced wrestlers to show the moves, then we would drill.

We had some pretty good wrestlers at the time: Bob Bowman from William Fleming in Roanoke was a two time SC champion, Brandon Glover a four time SC champion, Joe Heller a four time SC champion, Sherman VanDevender a four time SC champion (all from Granby) Mike Grandstaff, a two time SC champion, Don Ellerman a three time SC champion. These were all lower weight guys. Buddy Sanders was a SC champion at 167 in 1960 and Don Marks a SC champion at heavy weight in 1963.

This is what I remember from the late '50s to early '60s.
